Abstract

Influence of catalyst on synthesis of o-methoxyninnamic acid from o-methoxybenzaldehide and its analgesic activity has been studied. Method used in this reaction was Knoevenagelreaction and catalysts used were pyridine, piperine and mixture of pyridine: piperine(2:1). Aims of this study was to obtain the influence of each catalyst upon percent-result of reaction and the analgetic activity of the resulting compound. Identification was carried out by uv, ir and 1H-NMR spectroscopic methods. Results showed that mixture of pyridine: piperine (2:1) as catalyst gave the biggest percent-result and o-methoxyninnamic acid showed stronger analgetic activity compared to acetyl salicylic acid.
