Abstract
The existence of the internet influenced the phenomenon of online newspapers. The data of this study from The Jakarta Post online newspaper published on August 18-19, 2018, regarding Asian Games 2018‘s opening ceremony. This present study has a goal to discover the mostly used both grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion in The Jakarta Post online newspaper about the opening ceremony of Asian Games 2018. This research uses the theory of the cohesive devices from Halliday and Hasan (1976) as the main theory and the supporting theory from Renkema (2004). This study uses qualitative research. Demonstrative reference is mostly used in this study with 129 times to point out at something, and it can help the readers to figure out what is being discussed at the time. Repetition of the lexical cohesion is mostly found in this study with 154 total frequencies to emphasize the idea which was being talked in The Jakarta Post online newspaper regarding the opening ceremony of Asian Games 2018.
