Abstract

Background: Good alveolar ridge is a prerequisite for successful conventional/ implant supported partial/complete denture. Extensively resorbed ridges with shallow vestibule and high insertion of muscles in to the ridge crest, leads to failure of prosthesis. Success of prosthesis depends on surgical repositioning of mucosa and muscle insertions, which increases the depth of vestibule and denture flange area for retention. Case: A-47-year-old male patient visited to Periodontics Clinic Dental Hospital Airlangga University with the chief complaint of shallow vestibule and inadequate width of attached gingiva. Primarily, to increases the width of attached gingiva, vestibular deepening procedure was planned. Case management: The patient was informed about the procedure and signed a consent form by the patient. Before surgery, oral hygiene instructions were given, scaling, and root planning was performed. After phase I therapy, the patient was prepared for surgical procedures. Discussion: Shallow vestibule correction by conventional surgical technique is for periodontal preprosthetic. The conventional surgical technique is relatively simple, safe, requires no sophisticated equipment or materials, minimally invasive, and the postoperative period is favorable. Conclusion: Vestibular deepening using conventional surgical technique is a successful procedure for gaining the width of attached gingiva and vestibular depth.
