Abstract

The aim of this research is to prove the effect of moringa leaves extract towards diameter and tubules seminiferous epithelium thickness of testes on rats induced by gentamicin. The research used 25 of male rats (Rattus norvegicus) aged 8-12 weeks with 150-200 gram body weight. Group of negative control (K-) was given aquades 0,5 ml and CMC Na 0,5% 0,5 ml/rat, group of positive control (K+) was induced with gentamicin at dose of 5 mg/kgBW/day and given CMC Na 0,5% 0,5 ml/rat, treatment groups P1, P2, and P3 was induced with gentamicin at dose of 5 mg/kgBW/day and treated with moringa leaves extract at dose of 200 mg/kgBW/day, 316 mg/kgBW/day, 500 mg/kgBW/day. Based on statistical data analysis using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) it showed significant different, further analysis using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT), it showed there were different in each group. The result showed that moringa leaves extract in highest dose 500 mg/kgBW/day has potential improved diameter and tubules seminiferous epithelium thickness of testes induced by gentamicin. The conclusion of this study suggests that moringa leaves extract can increase the diameter and tubules seminiferous epithelium thickness characterized by increased spermatogenic cells.
