Abstract

Avian Influenza virus was attacked many countries including Indonesia. Pigeons were indentified as one of species that potentially to be reservoir of AI virus. The aim of this research is to determine the pigeon antibodies that are sold at Pabean’s Market Surabaya against Avian Influenza A H5. This research uses nonexperimental research design with purposive sampling methods. Detection of AI antibody H5 is examined by Hemagglutination Inhibition test. Research activities is taking 176 samples of pigeon’s blood slaughtered in the Pabean’s Market Surabaya by purposive sampling methods. The serum is separated from the blood clot, then serum was transferred into the microtube. Before performing HI test, samples must be inactivated in waterbath at 56ºC for 30 minute , the purpose is to inactivate non specific reaction of serum. Antigen AI subtype H5 4 HA Units is used as antigen in HI test. HI titers may be regarded as being positive if the titers is ≥ 24. Analysis is presented in the form of descriptive data by calculating the percentage of antibody AI of pigeons. The result of this research shows that any antibody AI A/H5 on serum samples of pigeons can be detected.
