Abstract
This research was conducted to investigate the protective effect Cinnamomum burmannii bark extract on the histopathological changes of kidney induced by formalin in rats (Rattus norvegicus). Twenty male rats were divided into five groups and were administered via oral gavage with different treatments for 21 days. The treatment were C- (CMC Na 1% + aquadest), C+ (100mg/kg BW of formalin), T1, T2, and T3 (250, 500, and 1000mg/kg BW of Cinnamomum burmannii bark extract respectively + 100mg/kg BW of formalin). The histopathological changes of kidney were examined by using modified Klopfleisch and Kubiak Scoring method. Then the data was analysed using Kruskal Wallis and then continued with using Mann-Whitney test. The result of statistical analysis showed significant difference (p<0.005) between treatment groups for the tubular degeneration, tubular cells necrosis, and interstitial congestion examination. This finding showed that Cinnamomum burmannii bark extract could protect and reducing the damage of rats’ kidney from the deleterious effect of formalin. The best dose of Cinnamomum burmannii on this research was 1000mg/kg BW.
