Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate and determine the infection degree and the prevalence of parasitic infections in stray cats gastrointestinal in the traditional market of Pasuruan. The sample used in this study was taken from 120 stray cats. Fecal samples were collected in pot-shaped containers and given 10% formalin solution to collect worm eggs, potassium dichromate to collect protozoa. Feces examination was carried out by the native, sedimentation and floating methods. The degree of infection was carried out using the Mc Master method. Data obtained from this study were presented descriptively and analyzed by regression tree. The results of the examination of 120 stray cat fecal samples were found to be positively infected with Ancylostoma sp. (26.6%), Toxocara cati (25%), Dipylidium caninum (4.2%), Trichuris sp. (0.83%), infected with protozoa Isospora sp. (4.2%), mixed infection Ancylostoma sp. and Toxocara cati (5.83%), mixed infection of Toxocara cati and Isospora sp. (2.5%). The parasites prevalence rate of stray cats gastrointestinal in the traditional market of Pasuruan was 69.16%. Types of gastrointestinal parasites found in stray cats were Ancylostoma sp., Toxocara cati, Dipylidium caninum, and Trichuris sp., while the protozoa found was Isospora sp. Degree of gastrointestinal parasite infection in stray cats at traditional market in Pasuruan showed average value of 60 to 4980.
