Abstract
In the virtual world, people communicate through comments. Both in real life and in online setting people give a comment with the aim of giving feedbacks, showing their expressions and reactions. In giving comment, male and female have some different features. The aim of this study is to present the internet language features used by male and female commentators in the comment sections of Atta Halilintar’s prank videos on YouTube. The method used in this study is qualitative approach because the data are in the written form. A theory from Danet (2001) mentioning types of internet language features helped the researcher to identify the features that has been written by the commentators. The features in Danet’s theory are multiple punctuations, eccentric spelling, capital letters, asterisks for emphasis, written-out laughter, music or noise, description of actions, emoticons, abbreviations and rebus writing. The writer also found that there is other feature that occurred which is borrowings. The data of this study was collected from 75 comments from male commentators and 75 comments from female commentators, thus, the total number of sample is 150 comments. The finding showed that the most frequently used feature by male and female commentators is capital letters feature. Moreover, there is an absence of one feature in female’s comments that is description of actions feature.
