Abstract
Since people in a certain occupational group have continual communication, they develop a special language used in certain situations. Their style of communication is distinguishable from other occupational groups that usually cannot understand it. This phenomenon in sociolinguistics is called register, a set of language items that are associated with discrete occupational groups. This study is designed to examine the linguistic features of the register of archery and to describe how the linguistic features of the register are used by members of Airlangga Archery Club. In this study, the linguistic features of the register are focused on vocabulary and morphological features. The main theory is drawn upon Wardhaugh‟s (2006) theory of register while Yule‟s (2014) theory is used to analyse the morphological features. This study used qualitative approach and utilized observational techniques. The data were taken from Airlangga Archery Club‟s preparation practices for a national archery competition. The results of the study showed that there were as many as 65 vocabularies found. These vocabularies were formed through morphological processes which include derivation, compound, and acronyms. In addition, the use of the register of archery was highly dependent on the context. The members of Airlangga Archery Club understood what they were talking about because they knew the situation or the setting well. Furthermore, the register that they employed was meant to make the communication among them more effective and efficient.
