Abstract

Nanoemulsion system is applied to increase the solubility of lipophilic drugs, such as p-methoxycinnamic acid that has antiinflammatory effect. As drug delivery system, nanoemulsions have many advantages, including clarity, high stability, and ease of preparation. Nanoemulsions were prepared by mixing surfactant, co-surfactant, water phase, and oil phase. Oil phase that used for nanoemulsions were soybean oil (Formula I), corn oil (Formula II), and VCO Formula III. Transdermal delivery system can avoid hepatic first pass metabolism. Hence, nanoemulsion system was prepared for transdermal delivery system. Penetration study was needed to determine the influence of nanoemulsion system. In vitro penetration study of nanoemulsion system of pmethoxycinnamic acid through wistar rat skin was determined using Franz Diffusion Cell. Several parameters, such as flux and membrane permeability were determined. However, according to the result of statistical analysis there was no significant difference on flux and membrane permeability of each formula among others.
