Abstract

This study is intended to reveal the difference of the ‗God's murderer‘ in two poems and find the intertextuality between them. Those poems are ―Parable of the Madman‖ (1862) by Nietzsche and ―God Obsequies‖ (2007) by Kennedy. They share the issue of God‘s death as the response of spiritual crisis phenomena. Even though they were published in different eras, these poems are interconnected and exposing the difference between ‗God's murderer‘. To conduct this study, the qualitative method was applied by using Kristeva's intertextuality approach to elaborate the meaning and Barthes semiotics as a major theory to analyze the text thoroughly. It is revealed that the poems are interconnected one another by the death of God event as the end of the religious moral value. The portrayal of the "God's murderer" appears differently in both text since God's murderer who is thoughtless and unable to cope with the situation in ―Parable of the Madman‖ has been transformed to God‘s murderer who is independent and deliberate in ―God Obsequies‖.
