Abstract

The aim of this study was to formed the inclusion complex between ketoprofen and hydroxyprophyl-β-cyclodextrin and thus enhance dissolution profile and bioavailability of the ketoprofen. Solubility studies demonstrated the formation of the ketoprofren – hydroxyprophyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex with 1:1 stoichiometry. The solid state of inclusion complex were prepared and characterized by X-ray Diffraction, Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), and Infrared Spectrophotometry. X-ray studies demonstrated that there was significant drecrease of ketoprofen’s intensity in inclusion complex compared with pure ketoprofen, but physical mixture showed the superposition between ketoprofen and hydroxyprophyl-β-cyclodextrin’s diffractogram. DTA studies showed the multiple peak of inclusion complex because of grinding that used for formation of inclusion complex. The characterization using spectrophotometer IR showed that inclusion complex’s spectra was identical with hydroxyprophyl-β-cyclodextrin spectra because formation of hydrogen bonding of ketoprofen with hydroxyprophyl-β-cyclodextrin. All methods showed that the inclusion complex has been formed with amorphous structure.
