Abstract

Lexical cohesion in children‟s novel which is written by a child is an interesting topic to be analyzed. The aim of this study is to know the types and the functions of lexical cohesion used in children‟s novel „Laura Green and the Screaming Maze‟. In this study, the writer used a qualitative method and purposive sampling to analyze the lexical cohesion used in children‟s novel. This study used theory from Halliday and Hasan (1976) about lexical cohesion and compare Erwadi‟s (2017), Sidauruk‟s and Jimmi‟s (J. &. Sidauruk 2019) work with this research. From the analysis of lexical cohesion in children‟s novel, the writer found all of the types of lexical cohesion appeared in children‟s novel. The types of lexical cohesion found in the novel are repetition, synonym or near-synonym, superordinate, general word, and collocation. The mostly type of lexical cohesion used in this novel is repetition. Furthermore, the functions of repetition in this children‟s novel are to strengthen the author‟s about the story and to explain the content of the story in details.
