Abstract
In this study the author compared the yield of synthesis products of cinnamic acid and m-methoxycinnamate acid. The reaction was conducted by Knoevenagel reaction, using microwave irradiation. It was also involving morpholine as catalyst. The optimal condition of the reaction used in this study was 100% Power (399 watt), with 5x30 second.. The product obtained from this study were cinnamic acid with 72% yield and mmethoxycinnamic acid with 85%. The presence of a methoxy group at the meta position increase the yield due to “mesomerat ion” effect didn’t decrease the reactivity of carbonyl group of the reactant.
