Abstract

The detection of lead ions in water using SMS fiber sctructure as a sensor. There are two types of multimode used, namely multimode consisting of cores and cladding (normal SMS) and multimode coreless (SMS coreless). This research studies uses ASE (Amplified Spontaneous Emission) with a wavelength range of 1510 nm - 1550 nm as a light source. The detection mechanism utilizes the change in the refractive index of lead nitrate (Pb (NO3) 2) solution in the multimode fiber optic structure with SMS. Changes in the refractive index in the multimode section of the SMS-structured optical fiber can cause changes in the spectrum resulting from the interference in the form of changes in peak power and peak wavelength. The results showed consistent changes in peak power and peak wavelength. The range of the sensor is 5 ppm - 25 ppm. For the analysis of changes in peak power on normal SMS obtained a linear area of 5–25 ppm and a sensitivity of 0.0032 dBm / ppm.
