Abstract

A journal review has been conducted on the preparation and characterization of single-phase (α-Fe2O3) based on iron sand using the sol-gel method. This journal review aims to determine the effect of calcination temperature in the formation of a single phase (α-Fe2O3) and to determine the optimum temperature for the formation of a single phase (α-Fe2O3). The method used is the sol-gel method, this method was chosen because it has several advantages, namely having high purity and homogeneity, the process is relatively easier and has a low toxicity. Materials that have a nanometer size will have better product quality, and have high mechanical strength. The characterization carried out was the XRF test obtained the highest element in iron sand after purification of 37% for the element Fe and for the oxide Fe2O3 of 26.4%. Whereas for XRD test, the crystal size was varied for each journal with an average temperature of 400-600 ° C, a single phase (α-Fe2O3) with nanoparticle size was obtained. Whereas the SEM test obtained a single phase morphology (α-Fe2O3) smaller and narrower at a temperature of 400 ° C -600 ° C with a smaller grain size. As for the VSM test, the greater the calcination temperature, the greater the value of coercivity and saturation magenitization.
