Abstract
Background: Workers in health industries are more likely to have health problems. Health problems may result in in sickness absence. High rate of sickness absence can decrease productivity and consumer satisfaction. Objectives: To analyse individual factors with types of sickness absence. Method: Retrospective study design. Data collection was done using secondary data in the form of sickness absence data report of hospital in 2017. A binary logistic regression test was used to identify the significance of correlation of age, sex, years of service and marital status correlation with types of sickness absence. Results: Of 416 workers, 100 people submitted 163 sickness absence letter with the total of 653 days. Women workers with age range of 26-45, who were married and with 5 years of service were the group with the most sickness absence. Short term sickness absence was the most common type. The results of multivariate binary logistic regression showed that age (p value = 0.659 and Exp (B) = 0.783), sex (p value= 0.929 and Exp (B) = 0.945), years of service (p value = 0.620 and Exp (B) = 0.866), marital status (p value = 0.773 and Exp (B) = 0.837) variables were not significant. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between individual factors and type of sickness absence. © 2019, Indian Journal of Public Health Research and Development. All rights reserved.
