Abstract

Drug solubility is the important factor which can affect pharmacokinetic profile of the drug. The drug that have low solubility, which can affect to low bioavailability and onset of action. Therefore, forming inclusion complex drug with cyclodextrins (βCD or HPβCD) was made to improve its solubility and dissolution. The inclusion complex are formed when some or all of the drug can enter the cyclodextrin cavity. This research was conducted by the literature review method. The purpose of this study are to comparing characteristic of inclusion complex including melting point using DSC, infrared band profiles using FTIR, crystallinity using XRD, and particle morphology using SEM, and comparing the dissolution of inclusion complexes made by the slurry and kneading method. The results of DSC, FTIR, XRD, and SEM of active compounds with βCD made by the slurry and kneading methods successively show decreasing melting point, shifting absorption bands, decreasing crystalline peaks, agglomerated morphologies that cannot be distinguished between the crystalline forms of actice compounds and βCD. The result of dissolution test of inclusion complex was made at 1:1 stoichiometry between drugs and cyclodextrins made by the slurry and kneading methods are increase in dissolution maximum at 2.2 times and 3.7 times. These changing of characteristics and increase in dissolution result proved that inclusion complex was formed.
