Abstract

The purpose of this research is to prove the effect of green tea extract (Camellia sinensis) on motility, viability and integrity of the spermatozoa plasma membrane in mice exposed to cigarette smoke. This experimental research used 25 mices. Group K (-) was given CMC Na 1% 0.5 ml / head without exposure to cigarette smoke, group K (+) was given exposure to cigarette smoke and CMC Na 1% 0.5 ml / head, treatment groups P1, P2 and P3 were given tea extract green (Camellia sinensis) at a dose of 20mg / kgBB, 40mg / kgBB, 60mg / kgBB and exposed to cigarette smoke. Exposure cigarette smoke had been given one cigarette per group everyday for 36 days. Based on statistical data analysis using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) it showed significant different (p<0.05), further analysis using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT), it showed there were different in each group.. The conclusion of this research showed that green tea extract (Camellia sinensis) at a dose of 20mg / kgBB has the potential to maintain motility, viability and integrity of spermatozoa plasma membrane in mice (Mus musculus) exposed to cigarette smoke. Green tea extract contains flavonoids which can act as free radical scavenger by donating electrons to ROS so that their reactivity is reduced
