Abstract

Twenty male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) were divided into five treatment groups with four biological replicates in each group. All rats received an excisional wound on the dorsum with a breadth of 1x1 cm and then treated according to the fivetreatment groups, i.e.(i) K0 (basic cream treatment), (ii) K1 (silver sulfadiazine (SSD) treatment), (iii) K2 (ginger extract cream and 8% honey treatment), (iv) K3 (ginger extract cream and 16% honey treatment) and (v) K4 (ginger extract cream and 20% honey treatment). The therapy was given twice daily for 14 days. The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed significant differences between each treatment group (p <0.05). The difference between the treatment groups was then tested by the Duncan's test to determine which treatment group had the highest and lowest value. The average value of fibroblasts from each treatment group showed that the K0 group was significantly different from the K1, K2, K3, and K4 groups. This study concludes that ginger extract cream (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) and honey can increase the amount of excised wound fibroblasts in white rat (Rattus norvegicus) but have the same effectiveness as SSD because there are no significant difference between these two treatments.
