Abstract

This study examines the ability to survive and adapt to the dominant political business alliance in Bangkalan after the end of Fuad Amin's political power in influencing the political process and power in local democracy in Bangkalan and its implications for the relationship between the state and civil society. The identities of Kiai, Blater, and the Bangkalan Regent that were integrated into Fuad Amin's figure gave him the opportunity to appear as an existing social power and accommodate the political business alliance in Bangkalan. This study seeks to answer the research question of how the dominant political business alliance survives the end of the political power of local boss Fuad Amin in Bangkalan Regency. Through a qualitative approach and analysis of the predatory alliance theory and local bossism, this study then concludes that the end of Fuad Amin's rule did not cause shocks and ended the dominant and strong political business alliance in Bangkalan that had been built since Fuad Amin came to power. However, they only need to adjust with the appearance of a new boss. This is also reinforced by the appearance of blater as a little bossism which was obtained from the affirmation and incubation of power politics when Fuad Amin was in power. This study suggests that the emergence of little bossism should receive attention from civil society groups so that its existence does not threaten the life of democracy in local political practices in Bangkalan. Little bossism is a group that has successfully benefited from the affirmation process and the incubation of Fuad Amin's political power.
