Abstract

Endometriosis is a condition that clinically aware because it can lead to infertility, dismenorhea, chronic pelvic pain, and other important issues. Endometriosis affects 5-20% of general population worldwide. Body mass index is a risk factor that can affect the incidence of endometriosis. This high incidence rate still unexplainable. Objective of this research is to study the relationship of body mass index and the incidence of endometriosis in Dr. Soetomo Hospital. This research used analatic observational cross-sectional approach. The• study population was Dr. Soetomo r.ospitais patient during 2012-2013. Sample size of 108 was taken by total sampling that met the inclusion criteria. Independent variable is body mass index and the dependent variable is endometriosis. Research instruments using a data collection sheet. The results of 108 patients who underwent laparoscopy are 57% of them had endometriosis and mostly (55%) with a normal body mass index. Chi-Square test showed that there is a significant relationship between body mass index and endometriosis (p = 0.000). The conclusion of this study are normal and higher body mass index independently associated with endometriosis. Mostly laparoscopic patients had a normal body mass index, whereabout their mainly diagnosis was endometriosis.
