Abstract

This study aims to discover description of the cause of body image dissatisfaction an overview of early adulthood transgender. Body image dissatisfaction is defined as thought or negative feelings about body parts, body shape, and body size which are caused by inequalities perception beetween his body and concept of ideal body based on his views. This study used a qualitative approach to the case study method. The subjects of this study were transgenders who have body image dissatisfaction and were chosen from early-aged adult transgenders of 18-30 years old. Three transgenders included in this study were obtained by snowball method. The research process conducted in Surabaya. Data obtained through interviews with subjects and field note. The results showed that the social environment and the pressure of social values would become a trigger to body image dissatisfaction. Individual personality also participate to form the negative feelings of individual body shape. Body image dissatisfaction is related to perception system, which is included the interpretation of his various experience on life. Factor causing body image dissatisfaction is low self esteem that indicated with not being able to see positive side in itself.
