Abstract

Patient safety is a global health priority. Therefore, every hospital has an obligation to prevent harm, mistakes and adverse events for patients receiving health care. 2017 to 2019, the incidence of patient recovery at the Rumah Sakit Islam Surabaya A. Yani continues to increase. The increase occurred mainly in near-missed incident. The increase in the number of near-missed reached 0.24%, from the near-missed with a proportion of 0.2445% in 2017 to 0.3939% in 2019. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of unit and organizational factors on patient safety incidents at the Rumah Sakit Islam Surabaya A.Yani through contextual performance. This research was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. Linier regression test was used to see the relationship between variables in this study. The number of respondents in this research was 24 work units that have been randomly selected in the medical service and medical support department. The results of this study indicated that job dedication (p = 0,000), teamperceived quality of patient care (p = 0,000), and job involvement (p = 0,000) has a effect on contextual performance. Team perceived quality of patient care was the strongest variable that can be influenced on contextual performance compared to job dedication and job involvement. Likewise, the results of statistical tests showed that contextual performance (p = 0.004) has negative influence (b = -0.561) on patient safety incidents. The results of this study also showed that there was an effect of perceived organizational support (p = 0.0012) on the patient's safety incidence negatively (b = -0.588). In addition, patient safety culture had a negative (p = 0.002) effect (b = -0.588). So, based on the research results, it can be concluded that the higher the job dedication, team-perceived quality of patient care, and job involvement, the higher the contextual performance. Meanwhile, the higher the contextual performance, patient safety culture, and perceived organizational support, the lower the incidence of patient safety.
