Abstract
Pharmacists are responsible for drug waste management and disposal. Proper disposal of drug waste is to return expired drugs or unused drugs to the pharmacy. In Indonesia, a program called "Ayo Buang Sampah Obat" has just been launched in 2019. The program provides container to return expired drugs and unused drugs in pharmacies. This cross-sectional study aims to determine the factors that influence the pharmacists’ intention to carry out the "Ayo Buang Sampah Obat" program using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The data was collected using an independent questionnaire which had been tested for its validity and reliability. The questionnaire was circulated online through social media. A total of 89 community pharmacists participated in this study. The results of this study indicated that most of the pharmacists (n=61; 68.5%) did not know about the take-back program. Pharmacists showed positive attitude (n=87; 98.7%) towards the importance of implementing the program. In the Subjective Norm construct, 59 (66.3%) pharmacists agreed that implementing the program would raise their image. In the construct of Perceived Behavioral Control, 73 pharmacists (82.0%) wanted to spend their time doing the program at their pharmacy. Most of the pharmacists (n=84; 94.3%) had positive intentions to join the program. Intention with attitude (p=0.000), subjective norm (p=0.010), and perceived behavioral control (p=0.008) had a significant correlation. This study concludes that there was an influence of attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control on pharmacists’ intentions in implementing the "Ayo Buang Sampah Obat" program
