Abstract

There are 2 factors that cause work accidents, namely unsafe acts and unsafe conditions. The implementation of safety behavior includes individual factor which includes individual characteristics, attitude, personality and knowledge, and environmental factor which includes safety climate, workload, leadership and motivation. This study aimed at analyzing the relationship between individual characteristics, leadership, attitude, safety climate and workload with safety performance of workers at PT. Dok & Perkapalan Surabaya (Persero). This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional approach, in which data were collected at one time within the company. It was conducted in November 2019-July 2020. It utilized a questionnaire as a method for measuring the independent variable, while observation and structured interview techniques were used to measure the dependent variable. In addition, population in this study was 94 workers and from which a sample of 76 workers was obtained, with details: 23 machine workshop workers, 21 outfitting workshop workers, 16 machine workshop workers, and 16 electrical repair workers. The results showed that there was a relationship between safety climate with safety performance (p = 0.001). The company is expected to give a contribution in improving safety performance of workers by creating a positive safety climate. More importantly, the company should include a program for terminating unsafe work, communicating the dangers and controls as well as organizing safety awards.
