Abstract

Heat stress caused by the combination of metabolic heat, environmental factors and uncomfortable work clothes. PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk. unit of Margomulyo Surabaya is one of the branches of animal feed companies in the eastern region with a production process. This process occurs in a room with high temperature because of the lack of air circulation and the high metabolic rate of workers. This study aimed to analyze the risk of heat stress in the production division of PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk. Unit of Margomulyo Surabaya. This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. The population in the study were all production workers. The 20 sample in this study was collected with a total population technique. Data collection techniques used a questionnaire in interviews and observation with observation sheets. The results showed that the measurement results of the working environment temperature in the production area ranged from 28,7oC – 30,4oC. The humidity in the production area ranges from 50,2% - 59% and the air velocity ranges from 0,2 - 3 m/s. The metabolic correction rates of the workers were mostly moderate criteria. The percentage of working time of all respondents is in the percentage of 75% - 100%. Most of the respondents are at a high risk level of heat stress. The majority of respondents experienced a severe level of subjective complaints. Therefore, technical engineering control efforts are needed for areas that are still considered hot, provide a cooler area with a working pleasant temperature between 24 - 26°C for recovery for workers, carry out initial and periodic health checks, provide information to workers through training about symptoms and health effects that can occur due to heat exposure, poster installation and counseling, providing leaflets in the toilet room regarding hydration levels with urine color.
