Abstract

This thesis is a research report that discusses the conflict between the community and the Kejapanan village government in the relocation of the Kejapanan village market, Gempol sub-district, Pasuruan district. The focus of this research is on the elite structure in the village, the sources of conflict and the dynamics of the conflict. Theoretically, the conditional arena in the village is related to the elite structure, economic and political interests which then raises the dynamics of the conflict. This research is in the qualitative descriptive category by utilizing secondary data and primary data. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with elites in society, both formal and informal. The results of field research and discussion indicate that the structure of the village elite has an economic, social and political basis in society. conflict arose between the village government and the merchant association. sources of conflict occur because of differences in interests and perceptions between those in conflict and reinforced by poor communication factors between the two parties. The dynamics of conflict were identified from the various efforts of each conflicting group to seek support from district level political elites and community leaders who were equally strong, resulting in postponing market relocation.
