Abstract

Background: Along with increasing age, there is a decrease in the level of health that occurs related to aging which affects the function domain in the elderly. These problems are related to frailty, nutritional status, and related health risks. To reduce and prevent these negative consequences, early detection of these prevalences can be done, one of which is by using the anthropometric measurement method. The aim of this systematic review is to examine the relationship between anthropometric measurements on frailty, nutritional status, and health risks to the elderly. Methods: PubMed, Elsevier, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, SpringerLink, and ResearchGate were searched using specific keywords, for observational papers published during the period January 2014 to September 2020 and that studied the relationship or relationship between anthropometric measurements and frailtys, nutritional status, and / or health risks to the elderly. Results: From the twenty studies that met the inclusion criteria, all of them found the significance of anthropometric variables in identifying frailty, nutritional status, and health risks through variables WE, HE, BMI, KH, SAD, c-index, circumference (WC, FC, AC, HC, NC, CC, MAC, and other circumference variables), skinfold (TST, SST, BST, and other skinfold variables), ratio (WHR, WHtR, WHHR, WheiR. There were three studies that provided data on the measurement of anthropometric relationships with frailty, one study provided data on the relationship between anthropometric measurements and cognitive impairments which were included in frailty. Then four studies presented data on the relationship between anthropometry and nutritional status in the elderly and one study presented data on the relationship between anthropometric measurements and body composition, which is related to nutritional status. There are eight studies that provide data on anthropometric measurements of health risks in the elderly, each discussing morbidity (MO), metabolic syndrome (MetS), myocardial infarction / myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure / heart heart failure ( CHF), stroke, dementia (ED), sarcopenia, cardiovascular disease / cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic kidney disease / chronic kidney disease (CKD), penunomia, hypertension, and diabetes. Conclusion: This accurate review is accurate that there is a significant relationship between frailty, nutritional status, or health risk with anthropometric measurements in which the method can be used as a fairly accurate predictor of assessing these factors in the elderly. And in order to reduce the negative health risks associated with aging, the elderly are expected to adopt a healthy lifestyle from nutritional intake to proper and balanced physical activity to maintain existing functional abilities.
