Abstract

Fasciolosis can be a high economic losses because removal of damaged liver organs and decreased productivity of cattle. Zhizipus spina-cristi L. contain flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, and tannins. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Ziziphus spina-cristi L. on worm mortality and the number of Fasciola gigantica eggs in vitro. There were four treatments and each treatment was carried out in five replications. This study used 250 Fasciola gigantica in the treatment. Observation the mortality worm were carried out at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hours, and the number of worm eggs was carried out after observing worm mortality was completed. The data obtained were analyzed using ANAVA and continued with Uji Jarak Berganda Duncan. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Ziziphus spina-cristi L. had an in vitro effect on worm mortality and the number of Fasciola gigantica eggs (p<0,05). The extract with a concentration of 10% caused the highest mortality. The treatment with 2.5% concentration was not different from other concentrations, so that the concentration had an effect on the number of eggs. The conclusion, ethanol extract of Ziziphus spina-cristi L. has an effect on worm mortality and the number of Fasciola gigantica eggs in vitro.
