Abstract

Early marriage is a social problem that occurs in adolescents. Islamic boarding schools as religious-based educational institutions are one of the institutions that have the potential to straighten out differences of opinion regarding early marriage. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between attitudes, subjective norms, and Percieved Behavioral Control with the intention of students to have early marriage. This research was an analytic observational study, using a cross sectional research design. The study sample was 112 santri, 15-18 years of old, at the Al Fattahiyyah Islamic Boarding School, taken randomly using simple random sampling. Data collection included independent variables, namely attitudes, subjective norms and percieved behavioral control and the dependent variable, namely the intention of students to have early marriage. The data analysis used in this study was chi-square and multiple logistic regression. The results of this study indicate that there was a relationship between respondents' knowledge and attitude (p = 0.039), gender with perceived behavioral control (p = 0.000) and perceived behavioral control with intention (p = 0.001). However, in the gender variable with subjective attitudes and norms, knowledge with subjective norms and perceived behavioral control, as well as subjective attitudes and norms with intentions, the results were not related. The conclusion of this study is that the factors associated with early marriage based on Theory of Planned Behavior in this study are perceived behavioral control. Efforts to prevent early marriage that can be done by Islamic boarding schools are by making activities and policies that can reduce the intention of students. Meanwhile, efforts that can be done by students are to exercise self-control so that they do not intend to marry early
