Abstract

Scabies disease often occurs in boarding schools (Pondok Pesantren). The lack of personal hygiene causes health problems in the form of scabies. Students in Pondok Pesantren generally live in damp and dense buildings. The lack of knowledge and bad personal hygiene will lead to diseases such as scabies. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and personal hygiene among students with scabies disease in Pondok Al - Kautsar Sidoarjo. Type of the study used in this study was quantitative observational research with the cross-sectional approach. The population of the study was all female students of Junior High School in Pondok Al - Kautsar Sidoarjo, with a total of 80 female students and samples of 50 students. Independent variables in this study were knowledge and personal hygiene, while the dependent variable was scabies disease. The results of the study show that the students' knowledge related to scabies disease has fulfilled the requirements or in a good category. Meanwhile, for personal hygiene, bed hygiene is still bad because the students do not pay attention to their bed hygiene, either for the sleeping mat, pillow, bolster, or blanket. They also still have a habit of sleeping together and swapping the bed with other students. The conclusion of the study is that scabies is a disease easily found in Pondok Pesantren with the very rapid transmission. Furthermore, there is a relationship between students' beds and scabies diseases in Pondok Al - Kautsar Sidoarjo. Therefore, the Pondok Pesantren should provide further education and socialization regarding scabies diseases and proper and correct personal hygiene to minimize the transmission and spread of scabies diseases in the future.
