Abstract
This study aims to determine the type, prevalence and influence of sex and age on the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites on buffalo in Agam Regency, West Sumatera. A total of 105 samples of buffalo feces were collected from three Districts. Feces examination was performed by direct smear, sedimentation, and floatation methods. The kind of helminth was Paramphistomum sp. 31.43% (33/105), Fasciola sp. 23.81% (25/105), Oesophagustomum sp. 1.9% (2/105), Bunostomum sp. 0.95% (1/105), Strongyloides sp. 0.95% (1/105), Trichostrongylus sp. 0.95% (1/105), and protozoa were Eimeria sp. 2.86% (3/105). The prevalence that 45.7% (48/105) samples were positively infected by helminth and protozoa. According to the statistic analysis, could be concluded that sex and age do not affect the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasite.
