Abstract
Nanoparticles is used as drug carriers that can improve the dissolution rate and bioavailability of the drug. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Carboxymethyl chitosan (Cm chitosan) concentration in the range 0.9%; 1.0% and 1.1% on physical characteristics and drug entrapment efficiency of artesunate-Cm chitosan nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were prepared by ionic gelation method with cross linker calcium chloride in etanol-water binary solvent and dried by spray drying. Evaluation particle size and morphology of nanoparticles artesunate-Cm chitosan showed that the particles has heterogeneous size at range between 840 nm - 8,532 μm with spherical shape. From FTIR evaluation it was showed by shift absorbance band of –OH at 3400 cm-1 , COO asymmetric at 1600 cm-1 and COO symmetric at 1400 cm-1 indicated the bonding between Cm chitosan and calcium chloride. XRD difractogram of nanoparticles artesunat-Cm chitosan that indicated drugs were entrapped in the system. Increasing concentrations of Carboxymethyl chitosan 0,9% - 1,1% could increased the entrapment efficiency of drug up to 66,72%.
