Abstract

This study investigated the influence of pH media dissolution upon solubility and dissolution of salicylamide, a weak acid which has analgesic and antipyretic activity. When salicylamide consumed, it will reach gastrointestinal tract which has various range of pH. As a weak acid, salicylamide’s solubility is influenced by pH. In Noyes-Whitney equation, dissolution of drugs is influenced by its solubility. To determine the solubility of salicylamide, saturated solubility of salicylamide test were performed. To determine time of salicylamide saturated solubility, the test were performed at pH 2,0. Salicylamide reached its saturation and going at constant rate after 7th hours. Seven hours of solubilization and a hour of dissolution test at pH 1,2; 4,5 and 6,8 were run afterwards. Solubility of salicylamide at pH 1,2; 4,5 and 6,8 in a row was 4226,67; 4299,60 and 4630,87 mg/L. ED60 of salicylamide at pH 1,2; 4,5 and 6,8 in a row was 46,07; 52,12 and 57,02 %. The result suggest that an increase of pH would also increase solubility and dissolution of salicylamide.
