Abstract

Background: ARDS is the leading cause of death in COVID-19 due to uncontrolled systemic inflammatory response. Rebamipide is used for the treatment of gastritis and peptic ulcers, it can also work to inhibit the infiltration of inflammatory cells and the production of IL-8 so that it has a strong antiinflammatory effect. NLR is the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, the higher the NLR may be associated with a more severe inflammatory reaction. This study aims to analyze the effect of giving Rebamipide on the improvement of Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio in COVID-19 patients with ARDS. Methods: This study was an observational analytic study with a retrospective cohort design. The sample of this research is total sampling, covering 180 medical record data. The effect of Rebamipide on neutrophils, lymphocytes, and NLR at > 2 measurement times was analyzed using the Friedman test. The difference between the 2 measurement times used the Wilcoxon test, to evaluate the groups receiving Rebamipide compared without Rebamipide to NLR using the Mann Whitney test. Results: Neutrophil values increased significantly in the group receiving Rebamipide on day 6, in the group without rebamipide increased significantly on day 3. Lymphocyte values decreased significantly on days 3 and 6 after giving Rebamipide. Rebamipide also showed an improvement in NLR values in the moderate ARDS group 6 days after administration, on day 0: median NLR 9 (2 - 22), day 6: 8.91 (1.78 - 60). Conclusion: Rebamipide administration to COVID-19 patients with mildmoderate ARDS is likely to give good results.
