Abstract

Most of the plant-associated bacteria can synthesize active biological components of phytohormones such us auxin. Indole-3-acetic-acid (IAA) is one of the most studied auxin compounds and used in scientific research. The studies of IAA-producing bacteria have discussed, but comparison of IAA levels produced by plant-associated bacteria species and its preferences of factors affecting IAA biosynthesis is still lacking. More than 100 scientific literature was searched and analyzed for this review. IAA-producing bacteria play role in adaptation, signaling, metabolism, and virulence factors mechanisms. Bacteria can synthesize IAA via tryptophan dependent pathways (IPA, TAM, TSO, IAM, IAN) and tryptophan independent pathways, and each species can have multiple IAA biosynthesis pathways. The regulation of IAA biosynthesis in bacteria consists of environmental, genetical, and physiological regulation. The factors affecting of IAA production by plant-associated bacteria consists of environment and genetic factors. Commonly, nutrition requirement and culture condition used to optimize environment factor for IAA production, as tryptophan is a major effector of IAA biosynthesis. To maximize the optimization process, RSM (Response Surface Methodology) can be used to cover the many environmental factors that need to be known. In genetic factor, utilizing genetically modified microorganisms (GMMs) can multiply IAA biosynthesis to increase IAA production by bacteria
