Abstract
Xenochrophis melanzostus also known as water tiger snake has wide distribution across Indonesia especially in Java Island. Water tiger snake (X.melanzostus) not only categorized as wild caught snake also but also frequently used as exotic pet by reptile lovers or community. Wild caught snakes were potentially risk by parasite infection such as spirometra sp.Spirometra sp. is a tapeworm parasite with a potential life cycle infecting both water tiger snake (X. melanzostus) and humans and currently known as a zoonotic disease namely sparganosis. This study aims to investigate the incidence rate regarding plerocercoid of Spirometra sp. tapeworm infection on water tiger snakes in Banyuwangi district. The method of this study uses a descriptive method with accidental sampling. A total of water tiger snake samples have been collected for the euthanasia procedure. Then, necropsy was done by cut one part of the mouth to the tail to observes the distribution of plerocercoid in mucle, visceral and subcutaneous tissue. The results reveals that 38 samples were positive, and two samples were negative from plerocercoid infection
