Abstract
The implementation of Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain (5S) program in hospital is still often considered as a trivial thing, especially hospitals in small cities. This happens because the application of 5S has not yet become a culture that exists in the workplace. This condition can be affected due to the lack of a good understanding regarding the implementation of 5S and the benefits that can be obtained from implementing 5S behavior properly. The lack of optimal implementation of 5S in the workplace can affect occupational safety and health to work productivity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between individual characteristics, level of knowledge of 5S, and supervision of the implementation of 5S on nurses at Nahdlatul Ulama Hospital Tuban.
This research was an observational study using a cross sectional approach. The study population consisted of all 94 nurses working at the Nahdlatul Ulama Hospital in Tuban. While the research sample was selected through simple random sampling technique as many as 78 nurses. Data was collected using research questionnaires. Data analysis in this study used the Spearman correlation test.
The results showed that there was a significant relationship between agreeableness personality type (0.255), conscientiousness personality type (0.299) and supervision (0.378) on the application of 5R to nurses at Nahdlatul Ulama Tuban Hospital. Meanwhile, the variables of age, years of service, extraversion personality type, neuroticism and openness to experience as well as knowledge level did not have a significant relationship with the implementation of 5S on nurses at Nahdlatul Ulama Tuban Hospital.
The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that the agreeableness personality type, conscientiousness personality type, and supervision carried out by supervisors can affect the 5S behavior in nurses. If someone has a high level of agreeableness and conscientiousness, they tend to apply the 5S better. Then if the supervision carried out on the implementation of 5S is carried out optimally, then this will also encourage nurses to behave well by implementing 5S when working.
