Abstract

Latar Belakang: Cacat pada kasus maksilofasial salah satunya yaitu terjadi pada bagian palatum, kelainan ini biasanya terjadi karena bawaan dari lahir atau tindakan bedah. Oleh karena itu dibuatkan obturator untuk menutup cacat tersebut. Umumnya bahan yang digunakan untuk pembuatan obturator adalah bahan PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate) atau resin akrilik. Selain resin akrilik, resin nylon thermoplastic juga digunakan untuk bahan pembuatan basis gigi tiruan. Nylon thermoplastic merupakan bahan yang digunakan dalam pembuatan flexible denture. Oleh karena itu dibuatkan obturator bahan nylon thermoplastic yang memiliki kelebihan estetik, fleksibel, dan biokompatibel. Tujuan: untuk mengetahui lebih dalam tentang pembuatan obturator dengan bahan nylon thermoplastic. Tinjauan Pustaka: Obturator merupakan protesa yang diperlukan guna merehabilitasi cacat intraoral yang berada pada rahang atas. Nylon thermoplastic merupakan bahan yang digunakan dalam pembuatan flexible denture. Kesimpulan: Pembuatan obturator menggunakan bahan nylon thermoplastic ini memakai obturator tidak berongga. Teknik pembuatannya harus dilelehkan dan diinjeksikan ke dalam kuvet di bawah tekanan (injection-moulding).
