Abstract

The research was conducted to analyze the statistical differences between the efficiencies of COD and turbidity removal by Duckweed plants (Lemna minor) based on variations of batik wastewater dilution and contact time of plants with wastewater, also to determine the optimum contact time of Duckweed plants (L. minor) in removing COD and turbidity. The method used was phytotechnology of Duckweed plants (L. minor). Wastewater was diluted into three variations which were 10, 20, and 25 times, and the contact time was varied into ten varitaions which were 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, and 30 days. The parameters measured was COD and turbidity. COD was analyzed using spectrophotometer method and tubidty was measured by turbidimeter. The result showed no statistical difference between COD removal efficiencies according to dilution variations, but the difference was present between efficiencies of turbidity removal based on dilution variations. Moreover, statistical difference was also shown between COD and turbidity removal efficiencies according to variations of contact time of Duckweed plants (L. minor) and wastewater. The optimum contact time of Duckweed plants (L. minor) to remove COD and turbidity in batik wastewater was 3 to 9 days.
