Abstract

The research entitled "Nadira’s Alienation in the Novel Nadira by Leila S. Chudori” aims to find: 1) Diversity of the Point of View on Nadira’s alienation in the novel Nadira; 2) The meaning of Nadira’s alienation presented in the novel Nadira by Leila S. Chudori. This study using a descriptive qualitative method by collecting data obtained in the novel that require quotations, quotes, sentences and paragraphs. Moreover, this study using two stages of meaning. The first meaning is in accordance with the available text, while the second meaning is meaning is interpreting by linking several data sources and the theory or approach used. Through the diversity of the point of view and perspectives of the characters, the process of alienation is also identified. Nadira’s life in the novel is not only described in the first person point of view, but also from the third person point of view. This identification is based on Robert Stanton’s theory of structuralism. Other figures in the novel also observed the process of alienation in Nadira included two of her family members, namely her older sister—Nina and Arya, and three of Nadira's office colleagues, namely Utara Bayu, Kris, and Satimin. These characters are characters who quite often intersect with Nadira, or even those who only have small interactions with Nadira. Then based on the structural identification above, it can bring up the form and meaning of Nadira’s alienation in novel Nadira.
