Abstract

The Low Socio economic Status (SES) has associated to the prevalence of hypertension. Indonesia is chategorized as low-middle income countries, that many people reside in rural areas with low SES characteristic. This study was to analyze the relationship between socioeconomic status with hypertension at the Tambakrejo rural area in Bojonegoro. A cross-sectional study involving 286 adult subjects were taken by cluster random sampling. Data were collected in July-August 2016. The results: The prevalence of hypertension is 19.2% with male gender dominates (56.4%). Most subjects had income <1 million, graduated from elementary school and worked as a farmer. Based on chi-square test, hypertension had correlation significantly with income levels and educational level with p-value p=0.000 and p=0.005 respectively, meanwhile hypertension was not correlated with occupational (p=0.084). Conclusion is low socioeconomic status associated with hypertension in the rural area Tambakrejo Bojonegoro. It emphasizes the importance of health policy to educate, raise awareness, and provide available health care services.
