Abstract

This study aims to describe the violation of the cooperative principle in the conversation of the film The Pretty Boys and describe the implicatures arising from the violation of the cooperative principle in the conversation of The Pretty Boys’ film. This research is a research that uses a qualitative descriptive method. This study uses a pragmatic approach, the theory used in the theory of cooperative principles, conversational implicatures, and context. All these theories help to analyze the violation of the principle of conversation and fine out the meaning of the implicature of a conversation. Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out, the conversational implicatures in the film The Pretty Boys are formed due to the violation of the four maxims of the cooperative principle initiated by H.P. Grice, namely the maxim of relevance, maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, and maxim of manner. Many of utterances in the conversations of the players of the Indonesian Cinema 2020 The Pretty Boys that violate each of this maxims have resulted in conversational implicatures which are another meaning of the statement said.
