Abstract

This final report aims to analyze types of slang words and subtitling strategies in a movie by Hanung Bramantyo entitled Positive. As described in this final project, according to Allan and Burridge, there are five types of slang words, namely fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, clipping. There are nine strategies, according to Gottlieb. There are expansion, paraphrase, transfer, imitation, condensation, decimation, deletion, taming, resign. By using three data collections, namely document, taking notes, and observation, this final project can find several examples of analysis of slang words types and subtitling strategies with their explanations based on Gottlieb's and Allan Burridge's theories.
