Abstract

Learning is a necessity to gain knowledge as much as possible and take some strategies to be able to digest lessons. It is important to observe the best tricks or strategies applied into the learning process to reach the goal. This study examined the learning strategies to English learning used by second semester students of English Department and Indonesian Department in Universitas Airlangga. This study used Oxford’s (1990) theory about learning strategies. The findings revealed that metacognitive strategies the most frequently used by second semester students of English Department and Indonesian Department. This study also revealed the least frequently used of learning strategies of each Department second semester students that have different result, for English Department was memory strategies and Indonesian Department was cognitive strategies. The reason metacognitive strategies have choosen by second semester students in English Department and Indonesia Department were discussed and implications for the future learning strategies in English to make an effective learning process and improve theor learning skills in English.
