Abstract
This study aims to find the gaming words which are used in internet gaming forum site and how they are formed through word formation processes. To achieve the goal, the writer observes 39 random forum discussions which have been taken from Point Blank gaming community forum site. The discussion is done by a forum user who posts a topic and the other users who interest with the topics. The data consists of 56 gaming terms which are exclusively belong to Point Blank vocabulary. The data is analyzed through a theory of word-formation processes by Bauer (1988). In his theory, Bauer divides the word formation processes into nine processes: affixes, reduplication, base modifications, shortening base, processes involving several lexemes, alphabet based formation, unique morph, and suppletion. Bauer’s theory is chosen because it is clear and understandable in describing each process in which new words are created. The findings show that the most dominant process is alphabet based (44.6%), and then shortening bases (25%), process involving several lexemes (17.8%), and the last is affixation (12.5%). From the findings above, the writer concludes that the usage the gaming words in the gaming community forum is influenced by the usage in the game itself.
