Abstract

The object of this thesis is the novel entitled Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. The purposes of the thesis are to describe the internal conflict and external conflict of Kevin Lewis as the main character of the novel. To support this thesis, the writer uses intrinsic approach from Edgar V. Roberts. It is used to analyze intrinsic aspects such as character, setting and conflict. The writer also uses other theories related to the topic which are gathered from books and websites. The writer uses qualitative method in his thesis because the data are in the form of utterances in written words and they are analyzed descriptively. The procedures of collecting data involved several steps. First, the writer reads the novel repeatedly. Second, the writer attempting to find out the concepts of novel, third step is looking at the elements of the novel and the last steps is examining the internal conflict and external conflict of the main character. The writer finds that Kevin gets some conflicts from his involvement in the team. The conflicts towards Kevin Lewis in the novel appear in two kinds of conflicts, internal and external.
