Abstract

This study is about gossip talk between female students of English Department Airlangga University. The aims of this study are to identify the gossip functional categories that occur in each conversation and to analyze the conversational features are used by female students of Faculty of Humanities while gossiping. In gaining the data, the writer used her hand phone to record the conversations between female students of English Department while gossiping in Airlangga University especially in Faculty of Humanities. The finding shows that the most frequently gossip functional categories that occurred while gossiping is scandal. Scandal is behavior of women who always criticize other women especially in appearance and attitude. On the other hand the most frequently conversational features which occurred while gossiping is questions. The pattern of women conversational features is to show that the participants support each other in developing solidarity between them.
