Abstract
This thesis is about the preferred and dispreferred responses that were found in some dialogues in three textbooks used in grade 7 of Junior High School. It is aimed to find out how accurate the dialogues in those textbooks. This study uses Conversation Analysis (CA) as the parameter because CA is the study of talking and interaction of conversation. CA focuses on the procedure of the analysis of talking in interaction. The writer uses descriptive qualitative in collecting the data. In this study the writer limited her research on four action sequences: invitation, offer, request, and apology. The analysis is to know whether the dialogues in those textbooks are accurate or not according to preferred and dispreferred responses explained in CA. The study found that there are some inaccuracies of preferred and dispreferred dialogues in those three textbooks. Besides, the writer also found that there are other inaccuracies in the dialogues in those three textbooks and many inaccuracy dialogues in those three textbooks besides the preferred and dispreferred dialogues.
